3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DEMOCRACY AND SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION (ICON-DEMOST)
"RETHINKING DEMOCRACY AND HUMANITY AMIDST THE DISCOURSE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ERA"
Introduction
The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at State Islamic University Walisongo Semarang has consistently promoted global peace, justice, and intellectual development through innovative research and academic dialogue. This aligns with its vision of becoming a leading research faculty integrating the unity of sciences to advance humanity and civilization. To support this mission, the faculty organizes an international conference focusing on democracy and social transformation in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The conference aims to expand scientific knowledge, enhance institutional capacities, and strengthen global networking while contributing to the university’s aspiration of becoming an Islamic world-class university.
The conference addresses the transformative impact of AI on social, political, and economic dynamics, particularly its implications for democracy and humanity. AI, while offering opportunities for innovation, has disrupted democratic processes through algorithm-driven disinformation and polarizing narratives, undermining trust in institutions. Additionally, AI's prioritization of efficiency over empathy and cultural values has weakened social cohesion and amplified ecological crises. This paradox of AI’s potential to both address and exacerbate global challenges underscores the urgency to balance humanity, democracy, and sustainable development. By fostering dialogue among scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, the conference seeks to place humanity at the core of discussions on AI-driven societal transformation.
